Frequently
Asked Questions
Dave Kent
here...thank you for your interest in DKC Marketing and our family of services. There's a good
chance you’re here because you want to hire a professional copywriter. And we’re sure you want to know more about a
writer before you hire him. If we were sitting face-to-face, chatting in your office, you'd ask me
questions. Let me try to anticipate a few of those questions and answer them
here.
Q: "WHAT ARE YOUR QUALIFICATIONS AS
A COPYWRITER?"
A: As a professional freelance
copywriter, I've written for a great many industries, corporations and non-profit organizations throughout North
America. My writing skills and business experience have brought in millions of dollars for my clients. This is
simply because I write clear, engaging, accurate copy that persuades, motivates to action, and gets
results.
My writing skills
have been developed over nearly three decades in corporate business and many industries. They have been honed
through professional training by the most highly-esteemed copywriting institute in the country. The impact and
effectiveness of my writing is further strengthened by field-tested people skills and my years in professional
sales. Learn More
Q:
"DO YOU
HAVE A DIRECT RESPONSE AND COPYWRITING BACKGROUND?"
A: American
Writers and Artists Institute, Inc. is the premier professional copywriter training organization in this country. I
am a graduate of their professional copywriter’s course…a course that takes aim and fires at the heart of the
direct response copy discipline. Additionally, I task myself with a yearly copywriters’ boot camp and ongoing
training through AWAI, Rockhurst University and by virtue of scores of copywriting books. But the short answer is
Yes.
Q: "DO YOU
HAVE EXPERIENCE IN MY FIELD?"
A: If you are a
small or large business, online or offline, reaching out to your audience through corporate communications or
direct response—or a non-profit organization that reaches out to members, donors or buyers through online, print or
broadcast media—there is a very large chance that I have specific experience in your type of product, service or
cause. And if not, the rules of effective marketing transcend the boundaries of industry and business specifics.
People are the same and the psychology of selling is the same across the board. I am a research expert as well as a
copywriter. I research and learn the project-centric specifics of each new project I undertake.
Q: "WHAT
KINDS OF ASSIGNMENTS DO YOU HANDLE?"
A: I cover the
full spectrum...sales letters, e-mail campaigns, landing pages and fundraising letters. Additionally, I create
a wide assortment of marketing communications materials, including ads, feature articles, slide presentations,
catalogs, corporate reports, white papers, brochures, scripts, speeches, multimedia copy, press releases,
newsletters, web content, and Internet direct response and direct mail. I can't predict how many responses my direct response copy will pull for you. But
I can — and do — guarantee your satisfaction with the copy you receive from me.
Q: "DO YOU
OFFER CONSULTING SERVICES?"
A: In addition to
copywriting services, I also work with many of my clients as a consultant, helping them plan marketing campaigns
that generate maximum response. They are happy because they get on-target, actionable advice that works ... at an
affordable fee. They also like the fact that I don't charge a monthly retainer.
Q: "WHAT IS A COPY CRITIQUE?"
A: Copy Critique
provides an objective review of a direct response package, script, finance plan, brochure, magazine ad or
fundraising package. You can have me critique either an existing piece OR a draft of copy in progress. It's up to
you. Learn More
Q: "WHAT IS
YOUR COST FOR A COPYWRITING PROJECT?"
A: For any
copywriting assignment — a direct response package, a sales letter, an ad, a brochure, a feature article, a Web
site — whatever your copy needs are—just let me know what you have in mind and I'll quote you a price. Our
Schedule of Estimated Fees presents typical prices for a variety of different
projects. If you would like a copy, please feel free to e-mail us and I’ll
send it to you.
Q: “WHO ARE
YOUR TYPICAL CLIENTS?”
A: For

Q: "HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE YOU TO WRITE MY COPY?"
A: Ideally 2-3
weeks are preferred to develop and complete your copy. That gives DKC the optimal time for each phase: Research,
Write, Polish, Edit, and Revise until the copy is at its best. However, we realize you can't
always wait that long. So if the job is a rush, just indicate the date by which you must receive the copy on
the enclosed order
form. If DKC takes on the job, it is guaranteed that you will have the copy on your
desk by that deadline date, or sooner. No matter what the deadline, the copy submitted to you will be right.
You can depend on it.
Q: “WHAT IS YOUR POLICY REGARDING COPY REVISIONS?"
A: Just tell me
what you want improved or revised, describe briefly the needed changes—and we'll make them. Promptly. There is NO
CHARGE for rewriting. Revisions are included in the flat fee we've agreed to for the assignment, provided they are
assigned within 30 days of your receipt of the copy, and are not based on a change in the assignment made after
copy has been submitted.
The vast majority
of our clients are extremely pleased and enthusiastic about the copy when they receive it. But if you are not 100
percent satisfied, I will personally revise the copy according to your specific guidelines... at my
expense.
Q: “TELL ME
ABOUT THE GRAPHIC ARTS SERVICES YOU PROVIDE"
A: If you don't
have a graphic artist on staff at your firm, or work with a freelance artist or agency, DKC Marketing can provide
our unexcelled graphic arts services in conjunction with copywriting. You would recognize the names of the clients
my two partners have worked with in graphics—and we believe you’d be impressed! Each one of my partners is a
professional graphic artist with copywriting savvy as well. And occasionally I even produce the graphics
myself. Graphic services are “a la carte,” so they are not bundled together with copywriting services. If you
anticipate needing them, DKC will be happy to furnish a separate estimate in addition to the one I provide for your
copywriting project.
Q: “HOW DO
I ORDER FROM YOU? WHAT’S THE NEXT STEP?"
A: Putting DKC to
work for you is easy! First, tell me about your client base and the nature of your project. Tell me a bit
about your product, service, cause or institution. Send me your brochure, catalog, product—any and all pertinent
literature that will give me the background information I need to write your copy. Use this order
form as a guideline. But don't worry about organizing anything - I'll do that. If I have any
questions, I'll pick up the phone and ask.
When you give me
the go-ahead, DKC will write the assignment for you. You will receive your copy on or before the deadline date. .
.and remember, it is guaranteed to please you.
There is no
charge to discuss your projects or ask for a cost estimate—and no obligation to buy. Contact me at (630) 310-8651 or e-mail me at david@dkcmarketing.com.
